Mushroom Science Agaricus Blazei Capsules

Agaricus blazei extract is a surprisingly new mushroom supplement on the market today. Unlike many of the mushrooms hailing from East Asia, this mushroom is actually a native of Brazil. Traditionally, this mushroom was used as a food source. When native Brazilians used it for medicinal purposes, they cooked it as a tea or decoction. This amazing mushroom was dubbed "The Mushroom of the Gods" by Brazilians for its spectacular medicinal properties.

History of the Agaricus Blazei

As a native of Brazil, Agaricus blazei was grown by indigenous people for its unique blend of amino acids, vitamins, minerals and fibers. The mineral rich mushroom is low in calories which makes it into an extremely nutrient dense food. In 1960, a researcher from Japan discovered the mushroom in a tiny village known as Piedade. This village was located in a forested area near Sao Paulo before it was exported by the Japanese researcher. By 1965, the Japanese researcher had started studying the mushroom. Today, Agaricus blazei is cultivated in Brazil, East Asia and the United States.

Immune System Booster

This nutrient dense mushroom is more than just a food source. It provides users with a high level of polysaccharides that are called beta glucans. Clinical studies of beta glucans show that this compound stimulates the immune system. It forces cells within the immune system to activate and defeat invading viruses or bacteria. Beta glucans also work to promote the overall health of cells in the body.

Many mushrooms contain beta 1-3 glucan. Agaricus blazei is unique because it actually contains beta 1-6 glucan. When the mushroom is eaten, the beta glucan is not completely active. To activate these unusual properties, Agaricus blazei must be extracted and heated in hot water. By doing this, users can absorb the natural compounds in the plant and stimulate the T lymphocytes and granulocytes in their immune system.

The cell wall of Agaricus blazei is comprised of a fiber known at chitin. This fiber is completely indigestible in its normal form and must be extracted using hot water. Due to this unique property, native cultures have traditionally used Agaricus blazei in a tea form.

Chemical Composition of the Mushroom

Most mushrooms are made of almost 90 percent water. Unlike other mushrooms, Agaricus blazei has a higher amount of protein and carbohydrates. Because of this, Agaricus blazei has been a popular food source in Brazil for a number of years.

Aiding Cancer Patients

Scientists are currently researching how Agaricus blazei can aid in cancer patients. Researchers know that the mushroom can enhance the immune system, but they are not sure why it is effective as an anti-cancer agent. Patients who have cancer have noted a reduction in their tumor growth and a better recovery. It has also been a noted anti-viral agent. Researchers gave mice Agaricus blazei and noted the difference between the spread of a virus between the group given Agaricus blazei and a control group. Although humans are an entirely different species, the research indicates that it could be a powerful anti-viral for people.

Overall Health Benefits

The chemicals and amino acids within Agaricus blazei activate neurotransmitters in the brain. As they activate the neurotransmitters, it stimulates the body to work more effectively. Over time, it has been shown to reduce blood pressure levels and improve the overall cardiovascular health of patients.

Studies of Agaricus blazei extract indicate that it can be a vital part of someone's health regimen. The extract has been shown to:

  • Reduce cholesterol levels
  • Enhance the immune system
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Slow down the growth of tumors
  • Prevent peptic ulcers
  • Support healthy blood circulation

Agaricus blazei extract is unique because it has not been on modern science's radar for very long. Until the 1960s, the extract was unknown to anyone outside of Brazil. In food, Agaricus blazei is traditionally used in food dishes. When it is eaten in a meal, the mushroom has a light almond flavor.

Although it still grows best in Brazil, it is currently mass cultivated in the United States and Japan. Research has also indicated that the mushroom is chemically the same regardless of where it is grown in the world. This mushroom is still unknown to any people because of its relatively late discovery. East Asian mushrooms are widely famed because of their long history of usage by doctors of traditional Chinese medicine. Since Agaricus blazei lacks this history, it is just now hitting the radar of health food aficionados around the world.
